About Department of Mathematics
In the 3rd meeting of the Departmental curriculum committee of the Department of Mathematics, the agenda about the replacement of the course code numbers of the approved revised B. Sc.(Hon’s) syllabus of Mathematics by new ones was discussed elaborately and the committee said that the code numbers of the original syllabus and the revised syllabus both existed in between the Codes Math 100 and Math 413 for which the computer is not in a position to compose those codes repeatedly in the online system. So, the course code numbers of the approved revised syllabus may be replaced by the new numbers between Math 500 and Math 813. To avoid ambiguity of serialization of the codes , the committee took a principle to replace each revised code by the number consisting of (each revised code + 400) to get the new and actual code number.
On the above mentioned basis , the curriculum committee is highly recommending to the Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh University to approve the replacement of course codes in the revised syllabus which are as follows :
- Sc.(Hon’s) in Mathematics will require four years ’duration of 12 semesters and each year consisting of 3 semesters and each semester consisting of about 14 weeks.
- Sc.(Hon’s) in Mathematics Program will consist of 48 courses and132 credit hours of which 7 courses will be non major of 21 credit hours and 41 will be major courses of 111 credit hours. Out of major courses ,32 courses are theoretical each of 3 credit hours and 100 marks ; 4 courses are practical , 4 are viva voce each of 1.5 credit hours and 50 marks & 1 Honors Project of 3 credit hours and 100 marks.
- Non major subjects will be only Computer Science, Statistics, English & either Physics or Economics.
- Year wise class load will be as follows:
1st year : total load 30 credit hours out of which
major lecture courses of 15 credit hours
non major courses of 12 credit hours
major lab course of 1.5 credit hours
Viva voce course of 1.5 credit hours
2nd year : total load 36 credit hours out of which
major lecture courses of 24 credit hours
non major courses of 09 credit hours
major lab course of 1.5 credit hours
viva voce course of 1.5 credit hours
3rd year : total load 33 credit hours out of which
major lecture courses of 30 credit hours
major lab course of 1.5 credit hours
viva voce course of 1.5 credit hours
4th year : total load 33 credit hours out of which
major lecture courses of 27 credit hours
Honors Project course of 3 credit hours
major lab course of 1.5 credit Hours
Viva voce course of 1.5 credit hours.
