Yesterday (30.7.2023, Saturday), a television debate competition was staged at ATN Bangla in the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation with a view to growing awareness to prevent plastic pollution. Bangladesh University (BU) and Cumilla University participated in the debate competition organized by ‘Debate for Democracy.’ The motion of the debate was ‘Individual Awareness Alone Can Check the Plastic Pollution.’

Bangladesh University, as treasury branch took part in the debate in favor of the motion and won the competition defending Cumilla University.

In the BU team Md. Ashikuzzaman, the president of   the BU debating club, as team leader played the role of prime minister, Tasmin-e-Jannat Siddiqui played the role of minister and Bappi Kaiser Himu, Muntasir Rabbi and Mahtab Hossain played the role of members of the parliament.  Sheikh Alauddin, Head, Department of English was the moderator of the BU debate team.

At the end of the debate competition the chief guest, famous environmental scientist and researcher and Executive Director of Bangladesh Center for Advanced Studies, Dr. Atiq Rahman and the Chairman of Debate for Democracy Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiran congratulated the BU debate team and handed over the champion trophy.  A large number of students and teachers from both the universities enjoyed the TV debate competition at the ATN Bangla studio.
