About Pharmacy Department
The aim of the introduction of the Pharmacy program in Bangladesh University is to prepare students to be the most skilled, responsible, and caring Pharmacist. The Department started its journey from June 2004. The Bachelor of Pharmacy is 4 year degree program. The total credit offered is 163. Students following successful completion of this program will be able to conduct higher studies and work at home and abroad with proficiencies. B. Pharm. (Hons.) graduates have ample scope to work in the production, quality control, quality assurance, sales and promotion departments of the pharmaceuticals manufacturing industries and in the community and hospital pharmacies both at home and abroad.
The university Grants Commission has approved the curriculum of Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honors) (Ref. No. 309(2)/96/7060, dt. 12.09.2004). The Department has also been accredited by Bangladesh Pharmacy Council (BPC) in 2008.
The Department of Pharmacy is currently being served by highly competent faculty members with degrees from reputed home and foreign universities of varied backgrounds, excellent academic tracks, research aptitude and professional expertise which will ensure the quality education, generate profound research and analytical skill. Eminent Professors from different universities and distinguished professional experts from various Pharmaceutical Industries are involved in manifold academic activities.
To support undergraduate teaching and their final year research projects, the Department has several established laboratories which are equipped with modern resources and facilities. The students conduct research on natural drug screening, drug bioavailability, drug formulation development, novel drug delivery techniques (nanoparticle, noisome etc), pharmaceutical marketing, molecular biology, pharmacology, analytical chemistry etc. National and international seminars are arranged regularly.
Bangladesh University is very keen to support the research works by providing adequate fund. As the fund is gradually increasing every year the faculty members feel inspired and interested to do research works in all areas of Pharmacy.

It is designed to produce the skilled and efficient professionals to manage pharmaceutical industries, hospital pharmacy, community pharmacy services and other government body related to health services and research organizations. The curriculum offered is very competitive with national and international universities, students following successful completion of this program will be able to conduct higher studies and work at home and abroad without any difficulties.

The Bachelor of Pharmacy is 4 years degree program. The total credit offered is 155. The curriculum include sound knowledge on organic and inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, medicinal chemistry, physiology, and anatomy, pharmacology, hospital and clinical pharmacology, community pharmacy, toxicology, pharmacognosy, bio pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical engineering, pharmaceutical marketing, pharmacy law etc.
The student will conduct advanced research on drug discovery, drug bioavailability, drug formulation, pharmaceutical marketing, molecular biology, pharmacology, analytical chemistry etc.
The Department of Pharmacy offers the Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons.), i.e., B. Pharm. (Hons.) Degree. Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons.) is a four-year degree course, which includes theoretical courses, laboratory works, project works and intensive industrial and hospital training. This program aims at providing students with modern and broad-based education in pharmaceutical sciences and preparing them as well-trained pharmacy professionals/pharmacists to meet the needs of the Pharmacy profession as practiced all over the world.
Through this program students will be equipped with the ethical requirements and technical know-how of the profession to develop their ability to practice as skilled and competent pharmacists both at home and abroad and in any field of the Pharmacy profession. B. Pharm. (Hons.) graduates have ample scope to work in the production, quality control, quality assurance, sales and promotion departments of the pharmaceuticals manufacturing industries and in the Community and Hospital pharmacies both at home and abroad. Bangladesh University (BU) is the pioneer of launching B.pharm (Hons.) program. The department of Pharmacy of BU was established in 1996. We have passed more than a decade with a lot of experience and goodwill.Now, we are dreaming for launching Ph.D. program in the department of pharmacy as soon as possible. | |

The principal objectives of the pharmacy department of BU |
1) To impart scientific knowledge for the identification, formulations, preparation, standardization, quality control and uses of drugs and medicines and effective management of their distribution and sale.
2) To produce a skilled manpower to manage the affairs of hospital pharmacies, pharmaceutical industries, community pharmacy services, drug administration and other organizations in drug research, marketing, sales and administration.
3) To encourage research on different fields of pharmacy so as to develop newer techniques of formulation, quality control and standardization of drugs.
